The Fort Collins Salsa Collective has just received some difficult news. Alexia, one of our longest-standing members and a tremendous force in the Northern Colorado dance community, has learned that her cancer has relapsed. She will be spending the next month in a Denver hospital receiving treatment, and her partner, Amaury, has been commuting daily to be by her side, care for their dogs, and keep up with his dissertation. This is all very unexpected, stressful, and financially jarring. The Collective is therefore organizing several ways to support Alexia in this exceptional time of need.

This Sunday, March 29, we will be donating all proceeds from our upcoming social directly to Alexia and Amaury. At the social, QR codes will also be available for anyone who would like to give beyond the entry fee. For those who can't be there in person, we will be sharing donation links widely on social media (once they are set up) — so no matter where you are, you can be part of this.

We call ourselves the Fort Collins Salsa Collective because community building is central to who we are. These are the situations in which we, as a community, have to step in to take care of one of our own. Alexia began dancing and joined the Collective around 2019 when she went into remission for the first time. Since then, she has not only grown as a dancer, she has also been a photographer/videographer for Somos Dance Studio in Denver, become an instructor at Scrumpy's in Fort Collins, and taken over as one of the primary organizers of the Scrumpy's Latin night. Alexia has poured into the Latin dance community for all these years. Now it is time for this community to step up for her.
